Acupuncture can work in many ways, not only as an alternative or complementary therapy:  Those who are contra-indicated, or do not like needles, do not have to be needled.

It does not have to feel like this !

Acupuncture points can be treated by needles, low powered laser, a small and gentle electrical pulse, magnets, or pressures (sometimes extremely light) of the therapists’ hands (Acupressure). This stimulation releases endorphins, a natural substance produced by the body which helps to relieve the symptoms of pain and stress. Other chemical changes within the body have also been shown to occur, providing further evidence that acupuncture can be effective. It has to be said that western medicine does not fully understand how acupuncture works, but sufficient research has shown it does work and can be a very beneficial treatment.

Acupuncture does not have to be painful

A gentle and clean therapy technique:

With acupuncture we recommend the use of the finest needles, using a gentle, sterile / clean technique.  When the therapist is using a gentle, accurate technique with fine needles, medical acupuncture need not be a painful experience.  With nothing contacting the shaft of the needle, after it is removed from a sealed sterile packet and before it enters the skin, the experience of acupuncture can and should be both a pleasant and effective treatment experience.

Acupuncture without needles:

There are those who might benefit from acupuncture, but they really do not like the idea of the needles, or they may be contra-indicated to needling in some way. For these people, similar effects can be achieved with treating the acupuncture points using acupressure techniques. Gentle Non-invasive Acupuncture techniques can also be used to treat the acupuncture points: laser, electrical & magnetic stimulation, cupping, moxibustion and copper and zinc metal pellets.

Training in medical acupuncture is not standard :

Acupuncture is now widely available in hospitals and clinics, but be aware that treatment techniques and standards of medical acupuncture can vary from one therapist to another, depending on their training.

Not all courses are the same and even those containing the same core material will have differences in the techniques and standards taught.  Our courses have always placed great importance on Health and Safety awareness (see Post Graduate Acupuncture).
