The Back Pain problem
With Back Pain it can be very difficult to establish an accurate diagnosis. The correct treatment, to obtain effective relief from pain, with a reduction of recurrence risk can therefore be elusive. However, one should not give up looking. The cause of the pain, or the activities that aggravate it, may not be easily found. Removing the cause allows the body to heal itself. Suitable exercise and improved posture are very important and sometimes can help.

Finding the causes of back pain for the relief and treatment of back pain

Despite the increased knowledge available on the causes of back pain, the number of people suffering from back pain in the UK appears to be increasing, not decreasing, particularly with lower back pain. In 1980, four out of five people suffered with back pain - In 2007, four out of five people suffer with back pain. Our experience, over many years, has shown that a reduction in back pain can be achieved with commitment. This may mean looking at our own way of life, perhaps changing the way we work and use our bodies.
Anyone really wanting to avoid back pain, must take into account their posture, their diet, and investing in a lifestyle and equipment that are beneficial to their health, rather than those that are ‘in fashion’, or ‘cool’. Our health is often harmed by the postures we force our body to work in, or the clothes and footwear we buy, putting ‘how we look’ before enjoying a long, healthy and active life.
There can also be a problem when approaching a therapist who has an approach to back pain which is to narrow, or ‘blinkered’. Each sufferer is different, which explains why not everything that is good for one back pain will necessarily be good for the next person.
Also, with back pain at work, the commitment must come from the employer and the employee, either one on their own will not be effective. Suffering and absenteeism will go down, whilst productivity and earnings can go up, if the problem is tackled by everyone working together.

The answer to upper and lower back pain
Our Employer Clients have seen the benefits of a reduction in the incidence of back pain at work, following a planned programme of training and support. Occupational Health Departments have referred back pain sufferers for therapy treatment, a Backschool, or ergonomic assistance with their work area. Finding the cause is as important as any treatment. Removing the cause, or situations that aggravate the back pain will result in reduced pain, improved health and increased activity or productivity. Solutions do not always have to be expensive, but even those that appear expensive can often pay for themselves, with improved health and activity, in relatively short times.

Many Therapists have improved their treatment results with the information they have gained from our Post Graduate courses, on the The Causes and Prevention of Back Pain and the Examination and Assessment of Spinal Pain. Patients have gained significant benefits from the correct self help products

Individual back pain sufferers have benefitted from treatment sessions and our ‘’Backschool. A one day investment, the benefits of which are seldom appreciated by patients until they have attended. The comment most often made then is “If only I’d known this before my back pain started!”
